For years, there has been a twofold need
for vented cap technology:

1 The venting of gases that can build up in a sealed package with certain types of products, causing blow-out or product leakage.

2 To prevent "Paneling" that can occur when packages are filled with hot material, sealed, and the material cools and shrinks creating a vacuum. Previous attempts at venting technology have incorporated perforated and/or convoluted lining materials, membranes, and combinations of these along with other mechanical features.

Traditionally these devices have addressed one of the needs but not both. Existing methods have high and low end limitations on their effectiveness range.

3The Pearce Technology can be used to vent internal buildup of gasses and it can be used to relieve the vacuum that is created when hot-filled product cools. The Pearce Venting Technology uses uniquely gated venting channels and does not depend on specific liner materials or configurations. It does not depend on any mechanical devices.



Why do you need it?

Products with heavy viscosity or products with certain chemical compounds have to be filled hot (90°-180°F). If the package is capped and sealed before the product is cooled, the volume of the product will shrink, creating a vacuum inside the package. This causes the walls of the container to pull in, or "panel."

The Pearce Venting Technology uses uniquely gated venting channels to allow air to enter the package until the pressure is equalized, thus preventing the vacuum. And it does not depend on specific liner materials or configurations, nor does it depend on any mechanical devices.

Chemical polarization paneling

Certain chemical compounds will react with the container material, causing positive or negative pressure changes inside the sealed container. The can cause the walls of the container to push out, or "bloat," or draw in.

The Pearce Technology allows gases to escape or air to be drawn in, equalizing the pressures and eliminating package disfiguration.

Internal pressure bloat

Certain chemicals, such as hydrogen peroxide, will cause gasification of products. These gases will build up in a sealed container, causing the package to bloat or, in the worst case, burst or rupture.

The Pearce Venting Technology allows these gases to vent out of the container as they are created, minimizing or eliminating distortion of loss of package integrity.

Atmospheric pressure bloating or paneling

When product is filled at one altitude and then transported to another, or is shipped via air, external pressure changes will effect the sealed package. This can cause paneling or bloating.

The Pearce Venting Technology allows the package to breathe in or out to equalize pressure as needed, avoiding package distorting.

How it works

The Pearce Venting Technology works on the principals of hydraulics and pneumatics. If the venting area is small enough and of the proper configuration, gases will be allowed to pass but liquids and solids will not. These sizes and configurations will vary based upon the viscosity and surface tension of the materials being contained.

This technology can be adapted to handle high- and low-end criteria over a wide range of products and sizes. The technology can be incorporated into Orifice Reducers, Sleeved Inserts, or directly into the cap itself.

Hair and Skin Care products

By eliminating the paneling associated with hot-filled product, filling can be accelerated by up to 30%.

Household products

Many household products create gaseous pressures when in sealed containers. The venting relieves these pressures but prevents leakage of product.

Food products

Certain food products such as Ripe Olives will continue to ferment after packing. This fermentation process can cause expansion. With venting the increased pressure is released without any product leakage.

Industrial products

Can be used anywhere that pressure needs to be released, or where hot filling causes a vacuum.
